Allen Bradley 1771-IBD

Are you looking for a module for PLC-5 or 1771 input/output frame that can provide 32 digital input points and is suitable for industrial voltage environment? Feimu Technology recommends the Allen Bradley 1771-IBD to you. As a professional supplier, if you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at any time.

As a professional supplier, Feimu Technology recommends the Allen Bradley 1771-IBD digital input module to you. It is specifically designed to receive 24-volt DC signals. Its core function is to monitor on-site sensors and switches and convert the signals they send into a format that the controller can recognize. It belongs to an older generation of I/O modules, but it is still a core component of many old factory mainframe cabinets. We have specially prepared this module to help customers of outdated systems solve the problem of difficult spare parts procurement.

What are the structural designs?

The structure of 1771-IBD is highly industrial in appearance. The circuit board uses thickened glass fiber board, and the volume of the onboard components is relatively large, different from the current small chips. The wide lines and large component designs aim to enhance anti-interference and durability, suitable for the complex circuit environment of old factories. The back panel interface pins on the module are thick, and after insertion into the frame, the contact area is large, effectively reducing oxidation and poor contact problems, ensuring stable signal transmission.

The overall shell adopts an iron box design, with excellent sealing performance. It can effectively block workshop oil stains and dust, protect the internal circuit from contamination, and extend the module's service life. Our supplied products are all of brand new quality, with strict quality control, eliminating the aging and potential faults of refurbished items, ensuring compatibility with old systems, and allowing for stable operation after installation.

Our certification

It possesses comprehensive international safety and quality certifications, including UL and cULus certifications, which prove its compliance with the strict safety regulations in the North American region and meets the requirements of the CE mark. This indicates that it satisfies the relevant EU directives, such as the Low Voltage Directive, the Electromagnetic Compatibility Directive, and safety and environmental protection standards. According to IEC standards, it also has the C-Tick certification, jointly establishing the fundamental guarantee for safe and compliant operation in automated control systems.

Which scenarios are compatible with it?

Allen Bradley 1771-IBD is widely used in water treatment plants, early automotive production lines, and old control cabinets in chemical plants. It is the most commonly used signal receiving module in all scenarios equipped with the PLC-5 system. For engineers engaged in equipment renovation and maintenance, when facing the problem of excessively high upgrade costs for old systems, continuing to use this module is the most economical and stable choice.

With mature technology and stable performance, the Allen Bradley has become the standard for maintaining old systems. Engineers are familiar with its operation and can use it without additional learning, which is convenient and efficient. At the same time, It is compatible with industrial control cabinets and can be directly inserted and used without any additional modifications, significantly reducing maintenance costs.

Wiring Guide – Input Connections and Common Terminals

The 1771-IBD uses a removable terminal block. The 16 inputs are divided into groups with common terminals.

Terminal assignment:

  • Terminals 0-7: Input channels 0-7.
  • Terminal 8: Common (DC COM) for inputs 0-7.
  • Terminals 9-16: Input channels 8-15.
  • Terminal 17: Common (DC COM) for inputs 8-15.

Wiring rules:

  • Use 24V DC power supply. Do not connect AC power to inputs.
  • Connect the positive side of each sensor/switch to the input terminal.
  • Connect the sensor common to the DC COM terminal of the corresponding group.
  • Each group has its own common. Do not connect the two commons together.
  • Wire gauge: 0.5mm² to 1.5mm² (22 to 16 AWG).
  • Strip length: 8mm.

Common wiring mistake: Using a sensor with an output voltage below 10V. The 1771-IBD requires at least 10V DC to recognize an ON state. 5V DC sensors will not work with this module. Use a 24V DC sensor instead.

Status LEDs and Troubleshooting

The 1771-IBD has 18 LEDs on the front panel. One green LED indicates module status. The other 16 red LEDs correspond to each input channel.

LED Status Meaning Action
Module Status (Green) On Module powered and operating normally. No action needed.
Module Status (Green) Off No power to module. Check chassis power. Check module insertion.
Channel LED (Red, per input) On Input signal is present. Voltage above 10V DC. No action needed.
Channel LED (Red, per input) Off Input signal is absent. Voltage below 3V DC. No action needed. Signal absent.

Troubleshooting checklist:

  • If the module status LED is off: Check that the module is properly inserted into the chassis. Check that the PLC-5 power supply is working.
  • If a channel LED is on but the PLC program does not see the input: Check that the PLC program has the correct input address. Check that the I/O scan is configured to read the module.
  • If a channel LED is off but the field sensor appears to be on: Check the sensor output voltage. It must be above 10V DC. Check the wiring from the sensor to the module.

Authenticity Verification

Allen Bradley 1771-IBD modules are commonly counterfeited. Use these checks to verify authenticity.

  • Front panel color: Genuine modules use a specific beige-gray color consistent with the 1771 family. Counterfeits often have a different shade or glossy finish.
  • Label quality: Genuine labels have permanent printing with the model number 1771-IBD clearly visible. Counterfeit labels often have blurry text or peel at edges.
  • Terminal block: Genuine terminal blocks are gray and removable. The screws turn smoothly. Counterfeits often use cheap plastic with screws that stick or strip.
  • Backplane connector: All pins on the backplane connector must be gold-plated and straight. Counterfeits often use tin pins or have bent pins.
  • Module weight: Genuine 1771-IBD weighs approximately 0.5 kg. The metal housing gives it substantial weight. Counterfeits often feel lighter.
  • LED color: Genuine channel LEDs have a specific red color. Counterfeits often use a different shade of red or orange.

If the module shows incorrect readings or the LEDs behave abnormally, suspect a counterfeit. Contact Feimu Technology with photos for verification.

Testing Before Shipment

Feimu Technology does not ship untested modules. Each 1771-IBD goes through the following verification process before leaving our warehouse.

  • Visual inspection: Panel color checked. Labels verified. Terminal block screws inspected. Metal housing checked for damage.
  • Backplane test: Module inserted into 1771 test chassis. Power applied. Module status LED confirmed on.
  • Input test: All 16 inputs tested with a 24V DC signal source. Each input confirmed to turn ON and OFF correctly.
  • Delay test: Input response time verified to be within specification.
  • LED test: All 16 channel LEDs checked for correct operation.
  • Packaging: Module placed in anti-static bag. Sealed in foam-lined carton. Labeled with module number and test date.
